
The just concluded Good Clinical Practice and Good Clinical and Laboratory Practice held in TASO, Tororo for TASO Uganda from all the centers throughout the country. The training was supported by Global Health Research Initiative (GHRI).

The KAVI Institute of Clinical Research (KAVI-ICR) has for the past two years been involved in improving quality management systems of public health laboratories through implementing ISO 15189:2007 standard and subsequently apply for external accreditation. Among the facilities undergoing this process is Mbagathi District Hospital Laboratory and one key component in the implementation process has been identifying areas of non-conformity and to develop standards of improvement through continuous staff training. Following the KAVI-ICR / Mbagathi lab audit review meeting held on the 20th April 2013 at Sawela Lodge Naivasha, there was a need to train Mbagathi staff on basic microbiology techniques and improve standards of undertaking internal quality control procedures. KAVI-ICR through the department of Medical Microbiology organised a hands on training on basic Microbiology procedures from 13th - 17th May 2013.

You are all welcome to World AIDS Vaccine Day celebrations on 18th May 2013 which is being organised by KAVI-ICR and donor organizations. It will be held in Kayole 1 - LAMPROS EDUCATION CENTRE. Activities will include Blood donation, VCT services, Entertainment, Judgment of portrait competition among many others. There will also be invited stake holders to exhibit and they are Blood Line, KAMCO, Vunja Ukimwi, WOFAK, and talks about nutrition just to mention but a few.

KAVI and Mbagathi Hospital Laboratory Accreditation Program.
Kenya AIDS Vaccine Initiative has been working with Mbagathi District Hospital for the last two years for the later to attain International laboratory accreditation. Last year in November 2012 the Hospital was audited by Kenya Accreditation Services (KENAS) on ISO 15189:2012 and a two star was awarded to the Hospital.
